How to improve wordpress website loading speed?

We have seen a few tools which will help in Page speed optimization, now let’s jump on how to improve the website loading speed. Google gives the special reference to the Page speed, it is an important factor to qualify the ability to rank.

Page speed is the time required to load the first byte, actually if the loading speed is more than, it might be possible that the crawler budget or allotted time will be over at the initial pages only and this will ultimately hamper your indexing.

Page speed is also important for the user experience. Pages with a longer load time tend to have higher bounce rates and lower average time on page and as a result, it will lead to lower conversion rates. Here are some ways to decrease your Loading or Page speed.

1. Optimize Images:

Compressing the image or optimization is a good method to reduce the loading time. Images give a more informative view of your article, but at the same time, it will increase the loading time as well. Images more than 150kb will take more time to load, to compress this you can use Gzip compression. Gzip can compress the image by 70%.

2. Use a content distribution network (CDN):

CDN stands for the Content distribution network, also known as a content delivery network, which is the network that will distribute the load of your content delivery. In CDN, multiple copies of your website are sent to the nearest server zone, so that it will reduce your loading time.

For example: Suppose the server of your hosting is in London and your users are based in India, so CDN will send one copy to the nearest server lets say in Mumbai, now the loading time of your website is less.

3. Use Prefetching Techniques:

In Prefetching techniques as per the name, links and results are preloaded before the action taken by the user, which leads to lesser loading time.

For example, Suppose we use the prefetching technique and when a user visits this article, it was loaded already and it will open in no time without consuming the seconds. But for that, we need to observe customer behavior closely. Usually, Prefetching Techniques are of two types:

A. DNS Prefetching: DNS prefetching is related to the domain, It is an attempt to resolve domain names before resources get requested.

B. Link Prefetching: Link Prefetch is used to prefetching the links, like in eCommerce websites where we already know the behavior.

4.Implementation of Lazy Loading:

Lazy loading is the technique where you can permit the section to load, and the rest of the section will remain unloaded, Or we can say that it is as per its name.

For example, there is an article where you use multiple images and you just want to download a scrolled picture at a time and the remaining picture will be left unloaded. According to the research it has been seen that loading time falls drastically after implementing Lazy Loading.

5. Remove unused CSS:

CSS is generally used to style the page, like to give aesthetic value to the page. But according to the research approx 40% of CSS implemented on websites is of no use. There are plenty of tools available on the Internet, by using that you can reduce the loading time and it is one of the best methods to reduce the loading time.

6. Minify HTML, CSS, and JS:

Html is generally used to give the structure to the page and sometimes unnecessary HTML files are there which can make the page heavier and on the same side Javascript is an interactive language, the number of times you interact with the page, it will send signals to the server and as result increase the loading time.

You can use minification techniques to solve this problem, Using minification techniques helps in reducing code byte size, and as a result, less data needs to be downloaded, which in turn reduces website load time.

  1. To minify HTML you can use HTML minifier
  2. To minify JS you can use uglify

7. Leverage browser caching:

Browsers cache a lot of information like CSS, information, HTML files when users come to the site and if the visitor comes back to the same site, it will show you the same result, it reduces the loading time. There is an expiry date for such caches, like for how long you want to cache such information, you have to set an expiry date for this.

Conclusion

In today’s time, where a fraction of a second can take away your thousands of sales, we have to focus a lot on reducing the loading time. The standard time mentioned by Google is 3 seconds, you can achieve this by following the above options and can make your website ahead in the race.

Being an SEO professional you need to keep track of the mentioned things because a single mistake can degrade your ranking by a few positions. Thank You for your patience reading, hope you like the information!!
